BIBLICAL THEMES          

BT 108 BIBLE PRAYERS (3) - Survey of the evidences of the efficacy of prayer from a representative portion of the 650 definite prayers recorded, and 450 prayers answered, in the Bible. The book of Psalms, a prayer book of its own, will also be studied.

BT 201 NT PROPHECIES (3) - Study of the position of the believer in the Dispensation of Grace, in light of NT prophecies, with special emphasis on the Church Age, the Rapture of the Church, the Tribulation, the Judgment Seat of Christ for believers, the Millennium, and the Great White Throne Judgment of the unsaved. A Dispensational position will illuminate the errors of Covenant (Reformed/Calvinistic) theology.

BT 204 OT PROPHECIES (3) - An emphasis on the Messianic prophecies of the OT, emphasizing the literal versus allegorical method of interpretation, Dispensational versus Calvinism (including the variations of Covenant and Reformed Theology), First and Second Advent, Tribulation, Day of the Lord, Restoration of Israel, and the nature of the future Kingdom.

BT 301 WOMEN OF THE BIBLE (3) - An examination and classification of the known, and some of the unknown, women of the Bible, with insights into the echo of women of Bible times in the women of today.

BT 304 BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES (3) - An examination of the Biblical principles necessary for the development of personal discipline and Christian character.

BT 307 OT BIBLICAL TYPOLOGY (3) - Study of the revelation of Jehovah-God, the Great I AM, as revealed in the Types in the Old Testament Scriptures.

BT 401 BIBLE PROMISES (3) - An expositional study of the conditions God requires for the fulfilling of His promises relating to His Presence, Purposes, Provision, Protection, and Peace.

BT 404 DIVINE NAMES (3) - A consideration of the science of Biblical nomenclature, and the character and characteristics evidenced, in the unique names and titles God has assigned to reveal the Three Persons of the Trinity.

EN 100 REMEDIAL ENGLISH (0)  - Designed to prepare students for EN 101.
 
EN 101 ENGLISH COMPOSITION & GRAMMAR (3) - A review of sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, paragraph development, and essay organization as an introduction to the writing process, essays and autobiographies. Emphasis is placed on expository writing. A minimum grade of AC@ is required to pass this course.

EN 102 ADVANCED COMPOSITION & GRAMMAR (3) - Prerequisite: AC@ in EN 101 - An introduction to academic writing emphasizing argumentation, research, documentation, and style, centering on the library paper. A minimum grade of AC@ is required to pass this course.

EN 201 INTRODUCTION TO JOURNALISM (3) - Prerequisite: AC@ in EN 102 A practical introduction to Journalism, giving special attention to writing of Christian themes, and writing for publications. The student will focus on the research and writing of numerous factual articles and editorials.

EN 202 CREATIVE WRITING (3) - Prerequisite AC@ in EN 102 - While studying and practicing  what constitutes effective writing, the student is encouraged to apply the tools of writing in an area of their own personal interest. Special attention is given to poetry, characterization, and other forms of imaginative writing.

EN 304 CHILDREN=S LITERATURE (3) - A unique opportunity to read widely from the best of children=s literature, and to become acquainted with well-known authors and illustrators. Emphasis is placed upon the evaluation and importance of the role of literature in the life of a child.

HI 340 HISTORY OF THE ENGLISH BIBLE (3) - Survey of the English translations of the Bible including the Wycliffe, Tyndale, the Great, and Geneva Bibles, as well as the Authorized King James Bible. Modern-day translations and paraphrases will be examined as well.

HI 344 BAPTIST HISTORY (3) -A study of New Testament Baptists from the Apostolic Age to the present, with emphasis on organization, doctrine, and contribution to contemporary local NT church polity.

MA 100 REMEDIAL MATHEMATICS (0) - Study of basic mathematics. Designed to improve the general math skills of entering students.

MI 101 BIBLICAL BASIS FOR MISSIONS (3) - A study of the biblical basis for missions including the call, qualifications, and preparation of missionary candidates, the relation of the pastor to missions, and the role of the local NT church in missions.

MI 201 HISTORY OF MISSIONS (3) - A survey the growth of the apostolic church through the journey=s of the Apostle Paul up to the present.

MI 301 COMPARATIVE RELIGIONS - A comparative study of the major non-Christian religious systems, with an analysis of their basic doctrinal and philosophical errors.

MI 303 CULTS (3) - An introduction to the false teachings of, and the scriptural arguments against, the major cults of the world.

MI 310 PRINCIPLES AND PRACTICES OF MISSIONS (3) - A study of the principles of missionary service, and the practical aspects of life and work on the field. This course deals with such matters as relationships to other missionaries, to the nationals and to the national church, plus various types of missionary endeavors.

MI 401 MISSIONARY BIOGRAPHIES (3) - The lives of veteran missionaries are studied in an effort to learn from their experiences. This course may be taken as an independent  research class.
               

NT 102 MATTHEW (3)  - Christ-centered redemptive approach to Matthew=s Gospel which depicts the Lord Jesus Christ as the Despised, Rejected, Savior King. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other books in the Gospels, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 103 MARK (3) - Christ-centered redemptive approach to Mark=s Gospel as it reveals the servant-hood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other books in the Gospels, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is examined also .

NT 104 LUKE (3) - Christ-centered redemptive approach to Luke=s Gospel as it reveals the Lord Jesus Christ as the son of man, our kinsman-redeemer. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other books in the Gospels, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 105 JOHN Part I/II (4) - Christ-centered redemptive approach to John=s Gospel as it reveals the Lord Jesus Christ as God. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other books in the Gospels, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 205 LIFE OF CHRIST (3) - Studies of the life and  ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, with an analysis of  the major  theological  and  practical implications of His teachings, viewed through the perspective of the harmony of the Gospels. Studies commence with the inter-testamental period leading up to His birth, addressing His public ministry, and events in His early ministry in eastern Galilee.

NT 206 LIFE OF CHRIST (3) - Continuation studies of the life and  ministry of our Lord Jesus Christ, with an analysis of the major theological and practical implications of His teachings, viewed thru the perspective of the harmony of the Gospels. Studies commence with the latter part of His earthly ministry, including His crucifixion, death, burial, resurrection, ascension, and ministries in this church age.

NT 207 ACTS OF THE APOSTLES (3) - Study of the work of  the  Holy  Spirit, through the lives of the Apostles, in the context through which, the Book of Acts provides a detailed  proclamation of redemption. The foundational principles of the work of the local NT Baptist Church are emphasized.

NT 208 ROMANS (3) - A close look at the message of salvation through the Person and Work of the Lord Jesus Christ. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 209 I CORINTHIANS (3)  - An examination of the message of total victory over the attacks of the enemy on the believer, and the local assembly, through the Lordship of Jesus Christ. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 210 II CORINTHIAN EPISTLES (3) - A study of the all-sufficiency of Christ as Lord and Savior. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 211 GALATIANS (3) - Introduction, exegesis, and exposition of key Prison Epistle passages. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 213 PHILIPPIANS (3)  - Introduction, exegesis, and exposition of key Prison Epistle passages. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 214 COLOSSIANS (3) - Introduction, exegesis, and exposition of key Prison Epistle passages. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 301 I & II THESSALONIANS (3) - Introduction, exposition, and exegesis of Paul=s writing concerning the start of the Thessalonian church during his 2nd missionary journey. The importance of the placement of the books in the cannon of Scripture, their relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 302 I & II TIMOTHY & TITUS (3)  - An introduction, exegesis, and exposition of the Pastoral Epistles, with a special focus on key passages. The importance of the placement of the books in the cannon of Scripture, their relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 304 HEBREWS (3) - A consideration of how the book of Hebrews presents the AMediated Life@ test of the Reality of the Redemptive Experience. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testaments are also examined.

NT 305 JAMES (3) - A concentrated study, through the tools of exposition and exegesis, of the application of faith to everyday life. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 401 PETRINE EPISTLES (3) - In-depth study of I & II PETER, with an exposition and exegesis of key passages. The importance of the placement of the books in the cannon of Scripture, their relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 403 JOHANNINE WRITINGS (I, II, & III John) (3) - An introduction, exposition, and exegesis of the three epistles of John with emphasis on key passages. The importance of the placement of the books in the cannon of Scripture, their relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 405 GENERAL EPISTLES NT (3) - A detailed study of the New Testament Epistles of Titus,  Philemon, and Jude, emphasizing the setting, theme and practical application of each. The importance of the placement of the books in the cannon of Scripture, their relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

NT 410 The REVELATION NT (3)-  A consideration of the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ as the Reigning Lamb, bringing about the Consummation of Redemption in the book of Revelation. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, and its relationship to other books in both the Old and New Testaments are also examined.

OT 102 THE PENTATEUCH (3) - Study of  the  Mosaic Torah (First five books of the Old Testament), including their Christological, historical and theological content. Special emphasis is given to the fact that these books provide the foundations of God=s plan of redemption.

OT 103 HISTORICAL BOOKS (3) - Survey of the historical books of the Old Testament, including  their Christological, historical and theological content. Special  emphasis is given to the fact that these books provide the experience of God=s plan of redemption.

OT 201 GENESIS (3) - An examination of chapters 1-11 of the book of Genesis as it reveals both the need for and the channel of God=s plan of redemption. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other books in the Pentateuch, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

OT 201 The PATRIARCHS (3) - Study of the lessons for life and ministry as depicted in the biblical account of the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph in Genesis 12-50.

OT 206 JOSHUA (3) - A study of how Israel entered into God=s redemptive purpose for the nation through faith in God=s Joshua. Emphasis is laid upon the deeper reality of the fulfillment of God=s eternal redemptive purposes through faith in the true Joshua-the Lord Jesus Christ. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other Epistles, and to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

OT 300 WISDOM LITERATURE (3) - A study of the background and context of  the OT Hebrew Wisdom Literature, of the books of Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon. Special  emphasis  is  given  to  the  fact  that  these books, while reflecting essentially the theology of the Pentateuch, do not seek to convey God=s Word directly to man, but entertain the questions that arise in the presence of the divine imperative.

OT 301 JOB (3) - A study of how God uses suffering in the lives of His saints to bring about His eternal redemptive purposes. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other poetical books, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament is also examined.

OT 304 PSALMS (3) - A study of the rich storehouse of human experience contained in this APrayer Book@ of the OT saints. Analysis will be made of the complexity of the structure, the content of the penances and petitions, and the clarity of God=s responses.

OT 305 PROVERBS (3) - Study, and practical application of the Biblical character traits (goads and nails) requisite for leading a Christ-centered life built upon the foundations of the grace of God.

OT 306 ECCLESIASTES (3) - An analysis of the historical background, authorship, and poetical structure of the book of Ecclesiastes. Special emphasis is given to the messianic aspects, devotional elements, and the book’s potential for character development as observed through the eyes of The Preacher, who believes that that life is temporary and enigmatic, and that God is eternal and sovereign

OT 401 MAJOR PROPHETS (3) - A  survey  of  the first five books of the last section of the  Old Testament, with emphasis on the Messianic, Soteriological and Eschatological sections. Special attention is given to the fact that these books provide the telescopic call to redemption.

OT 403 DANIEL (3) - A study of Daniel=s prophetic writings in light of their historical and  practical significance to the believer. An understanding of both the Gospel of Matthew, and the book of The Revelation is a prerequisite for this course.

OT 410 MINOR PROPHETS (3) - A  survey  of  the final twelve  books of the last section of the Old Testament. with emphasis on the Messianic, Soteriological and Eschatological sections. Special attention is given to the fact that these books provide the microscopic call to redemption.

OT 411 ISAIAH (3) - An examination of the revelation of the foundational call to redemption and to a redemptive life in the book of Isaiah. The importance of the placement of the book in the cannon of Scripture, its relationship to the other poetical books, and its relationship to both the Old and New Testament are also examined.

PD 203 THE CONVERSATION OF A GODLY MAN (2/3) - A study of the Biblical principles requisite for the believer to live a life, wholly acceptable unto God.

PD 204 THE MAKING OF A DISCIPLE (2/3) - A critical study of the pivotal Biblical principles of discipleship from the life of the Apostle Peter.
 
PD 205 JESUS CHRIST AS A DISCIPLER (2/3) - A systematic study of the methodology practiced by the Lord Jesus Christ in reaching the lost, and in discipling His followers.

PD 206 THE DISCIPLE MAKING CHURCH (2/3) - A study of the doctrinal basis of discipleship contained in the Great Commission, and practiced by the local NT church in the first-century.

PD 207 THE DISCIPLE MAKING PASTOR (2/3) - A study of the scriptural mandate for the pastor of a local NT church to be a Disciple Maker

PS 102 BUSINESS  ADMINISTRATION OF THE LOCAL CHURCH (3) - Provides students with practical information, useful tools, and requisite skills that will enable them to serve and manage effectively in the ministry of a local NT church.

PS 125 - 426 PRACTICAL THEOLOGY (1) - A combination course of lectures and practical experience designed to expose students to the different aspects of a local NT church ministry, such as the bus ministry, children=s church, choir, nursery,  Sunday school, and ushering. Offered in the Fall Semester.

PS 115-416 MINISTERIAL ISSUES (1) - In depth study of the practical issues that a Baptist minister faces in today=s society. Special attention is given the call and responsibilities of the man of God as he serves in the local NT Church. Offered in the Spring Semester.

PS 221/222 HOMILETICS (3/Semester) Prerequisites:  Credit for, or concurrent enrollment in SP 101/ 102 - Basic course in sermon construction. Both the structure and content of the sermon in building expository Bible messages are considered. The second semester is occupied with practice preaching.

PS 223 BAPTIST POLITY (3) - Principles of  organization  and  administration  of  the  local New Testament Baptist Church. Duties of the pastor and church officers are outlined. Baptist distinctives are defined, studied, and related to Christian Doctrine. 

PS 301/302 EXPOSITORY PREACHING (3/Sem.) Prerequisites: SP 101, 102; PS 221, 222 B Advanced  study  and  experience  in sermon preparation and delivery, with emphasis on use of the Old Testament Scriptures.

PS 401/402 EXPOSITORY PREACHING (3/Sem.) Prerequisites: PS 221, 222; PS SP 101, 102  - Advanced  study and experience in sermon preparation and delivery, with a particular emphasis on sermon  preparation using  the New Testament. Attention will also be given to the teaching of the ordinances of the local New Testament Baptist Church.

SP 101/102 FUNDAMENTALS OF SPEECH (3/Sem.) - Emphasis on the basic principles of public speaking, with practical applications on platform techniques, and a study of the different types of speech.

SP 201 STORYTELLING (3) - Introduction to the principles of effective storytelling. Experience is provided in the techniques and skills necessary for development of the art of telling stories to all ages.

                  
TH 207 DOCTRINE OF THE LOCAL NT CHURCH (3) - Study of the theological and historical position of the local NT Church. The study includes an investigation, and  refutation, of the concepts of a visible and of invisible Catholic Ecclesiology.

TH 211 SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY I (3) - Systematic study of the doctrine of Bibliology  including an examination of the basic terms and passages, and a discussion of current issues.

TH 212 SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY II (3)  - Systematic study  of the doctrine of Theology Proper, including an examination of basic terms and passages, and discussion of current issues.

TH 311 SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY III (3) - Systematic study of the doctrines of  Anthropology, Hamartiology, Soteriology, including an examination of basic terms and passages, and discussion of current issues.

TH 312 SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY IV (3) - Systematic study of the doctrines of the local NT Church and last things, including an examination of basic terms and passages, and discussion of current issues.
